The Making of a Virtuous Woman

As we know this year, we’ve been given the grace to hit GO. Praise God for that.
I wanted to take some time to unpack the character of a virtuous woman because it’s so relevant to the person we need to reflect in order to go after the dreams and visions of our hearts. Especially, so we don't end up on a goose chase. Trying to go and get everything, but, with no strategy or clarity on what systems we need to put in place as a way to create checks and balances.
So what we'll explore today is the making of a virtuous woman -- our scripture of focus is Proverbs 31:10-31. First things first, let’s establish who the virtuous woman is. According to what the bible says I’ve gathered that she is:
A builder (v 13, 24, 27) | A business woman (v 17-18)| A caretaker (v 21-23| A provider (v 15-16)
Whoa now. Wait a minute. If scriptures tell us this about a woman, then it’s clear that any ideology that says women should stay at home and only focus on taking care of the home is false. As we see in the scripture, a virtuous woman at least should find ways to create wealth and create resources for her family, friends, and neighbors. Her virtue is in service of others, which in turn in is in service of God. (Remember love thy neighbor). Where many of us go wrong is that we put the building and business above our families. It has to be honorable. Now that we’ve established that, let’s look at some of her attributes… She demonstrates that:
She has foresight and insight, is blessed and valued (by her family), and Fears the Lord.
I’m of the belief that if not for her foresight and insight, being blessed and valued and fearing the Lord, she wouldn’t have been able to be all of the things I’ve listed above. I would define these as asset drivers to her fruit. Being a builder, businesswoman, caretaker, and provider are the fruits (the results) of her character.
As for her character, the text reveals that her character is:
Disciplined, Energetic, Strong, Hard Working, Diligent, Leader, and Creative
Ladies, ask yourself: Am I displaying these characteristics in my life? If yes, how? If no, what can you change today to reflect these traits?
Transparently, being disciplined with my time has been my hardest hurdle. But, what I'm finding is that change doesn't have to be rapid and it doesn't have to look like what the gurus say. But instead, it can look like Gods hand, working with me to shift me towards disciplined time management. I humble myself and acknowledge that in my own strength I can't do it, but with the strength and help of God I can.
How am I experiencing God's intervention? It's in the quiet of the morning when my body wakes before my alarm, and I'm left with the question "Will you start your day now, or will you lay back down?" In the beginning, my answers varied, but then I'd hear my own prayers and hopes replaying in my mind. It's in these little moments that God is assisting me, and He can assist you too.
In the grand scheme of these macro prayers and hopes, it points back to salvation, living righteously, and fulfilling purpose for the glory of God. So, while my prayer is for discipline, at the root it points back to "what do I want to become of my life as a daughter of God?"
The strategy needs to be: allowing ourselves to be still, letting God be the King of our heart, and reflecting on the fruits and characteristics He calls us to reflect.
The outcome: Clarity, direction, and a life that flows.
Seek first the kingdom of God, and all other things will be added. Matthew 6:33
Remember that your virtue lies in the words and truth that He's crafted about women. We can see this in the stories of the women who embody the fruits and characters we talked about.
Ruth (Read Ruth) | Esther (Read Esther) | Mary - Mother of Jesus (Read Luke 1:24-56) | Jael (Read Judges 4) | Deborah (Read Judges 4-5)
And before I go, Happy Women's History month!
